กฎและข้อคิดเล็กๆเตือนใจสำหรับแพทย์

เมื่อตอนผมเป็นนักศึกษาแพทย์ได้ซื้อหนังสือเล่มเล็กๆ เล่มหนึ่งชื่อว่า A little book of doctors’ rules ของ Dr. Clifton K. Meador หนังสือเล่มนี้ัได้บรรจุข้อคิด กฎ และข้อเตือนใจมากมายสำหรับแพทย์ ตอนนั้นจำไม่ได้ว่าซื้อมาราคาเท่าไร คิดว่าน่าจะประมาณร้อยกว่าบาท แต่ผมจำได้ดีเลยว่าพอได้อ่านครั้งแรกก็ชอบมาก หลังจากนั้นผมได้เอามาพลิกอ่านอยู่บ่อยๆ เพราะหลายอย่างที่เขียนอยู่ในนั้นเตือนใจเราได้เป็นอย่างดี มีทั้งกฎ ข้อคิด ข้อเตือนใจ ทั้งในความจริงเกี่ยวกับโรค คนไข้ แพทย์ รวมไปถึงการทำงาน Process การคิดของแพทย์ จริยธรรม และคุณธรรมของแพทย์ ซึ่งทุกวันนี้ผมก็ยังเอามาอ่านอยู่บ่อยๆ

ลองดูตัวอย่างไหมครับ

• Being a physician is a high priviledge. Do not abuse it.
• Just because you know a lot of physiology, biochemistry, and anatomy doest not mean you know anything about life or people. Let your patient and other people teach you.
• Time is the greatest diagnostician. Use it wisely.
• You often have to throw out some result or finding. Choose wisely what you discard.
• You cannot be everybody’s physician.
• Learn to distinguish those patients for whom you can be their physician from those for whom you cannot. Refer the latter to another physician. Do it sooner than later.
• Never tell a symptomatic patient, “There is nothing wrong with you.” It is demeaning and insulting.
• With an undiagnosed seriously ill patient, there is probably a physician somewhere who will know what the patient has. Find that physician.
• Treat the disease the patient has, not the disease you want the patient to have.
• There is always a placebo effect acting. Learn what is a placebo about what you do and what is pharmacological. Keep the two separated in you clinical thinking.

ในหนังสือเล่มเล็กๆนี้บรรจุถ้อยคำเหล่านี้ไว้มากมาย อ่านและสะกิดใจ และเตือนใจได้ดีเลยใช่ไหมครับ

เป็นที่น่าเสียดายที่หนังสือเล่มนี้ปัจจุบันไม่มีวางขายแล้ว ถ้ามีผมคงซื้อไว้อีกหลายเล่มแน่นอน และอาจซื้อเอาไปให้เป็นของฝากรุ่นน้องหลายๆคนด้วย ถ้าใครสนใจจริงๆลองเข้าไปหาที่ ebay.com หรือ amazon.com ดูก็ได้ครับ

แต่เท่าที่ลอง search ดูเล่นๆที่ Amazon.com มีคนเอามาขายอยู่บ้าง อยากรู้ราคาไหมครับ หนังสือเล่มนี้ราคามือสอง ตำ่สุดอยู่ที่ 170 USD หรือกว่า 5,400 บาท  ถ้าเป็นของใหม่ ราคาจะพุ่งไปถึง 460 USD หรือกว่า 14,000 บาทเลยทีเดียว ผมเชื่อว่าคนที่มีคงรักหนังสือเล่มนี้มากถึงตั้งราคาไว้สูงลิ่ว ใครสนใจจะเข้าไปดูก็ได้นะครับที่ร้าน Amazon.com  ตาม LINK นี้ http://www.amazon.com/Little-Book-Doctors-Rules-1e/dp/1560530618
